Math 117: Topology of the Real Numbers
نویسنده
چکیده
This is a very abstract definition, so for the time being the reader may want to focus instead on the notion of open sets within R, which will be developed in the following pages. The family T of open sets in R is the simplest example of topology. Gradually, it will become apparent that this topology is useful for formulating the various notions of limit, and we will see how these limits are used to define continuous functions. Ultimately, they are also used to define derivatives of functions. In this installment of the lecture notes, we highlight the most important topics presented in Chapter 3 of the text [1], and provide a few additional topics on metric spaces, in the hopes of providing an easier transition to more advanced books on real analysis, such as [3]. The study of the various topologies that one can define on sets has developed into an important branch of mathematics in its own right, called topology [2].

In many real applications, the data of production processes can't be precisely measured. We develop some fuzzy versions of the classical DEA models (in particular, the CCRmodel) by using some ranking methods based on the comparison of cuts. Our approachescan be seen as an extension of the DEA methodology. The provides users and practitionerswith models which represent some real life processes mo...
متن کاملA kind of fuzzy upper topology on L-preordered sets
Considering a commutative unital quantale L as the truth value table and using the tool of L-generalized convergence structures of stratified L-filters, this paper introduces a kind of fuzzy upper topology, called fuzzy S-upper topology, on L-preordered sets. It is shown that every fuzzy join-preserving L-subset is open in this topology. When L is a complete Heyting algebra, for every completel...
متن کاملOn Hilbert Golab-Schinzel type functional equation
Let $X$ be a vector space over a field $K$ of real or complex numbers. We will prove the superstability of the following Go{l}c{a}b-Schinzel type equation$$f(x+g(x)y)=f(x)f(y), x,yin X,$$where $f,g:Xrightarrow K$ are unknown functions (satisfying some assumptions). Then we generalize the superstability result for this equation with values in the field of complex numbers to the case of an arbitr...
متن کاملPOINTWISE CONVERGENCE TOPOLOGY AND FUNCTION SPACES IN FUZZY ANALYSIS
We study the space of all continuous fuzzy-valued functions from a space $X$ into the space of fuzzy numbers $(mathbb{E}sp{1},dsb{infty})$ endowed with the pointwise convergence topology. Our results generalize the classical ones for continuous real-valued functions. The field of applications of this approach seems to be large, since the classical case allows many known devices to be fi...
متن کاملA note on approximation conditions, standard triangularizability and a power set topology
The main result of this article is that for collections of entry-wise non-negative matrices the property of possessing a standard triangularization is stable under approximation. The methodology introduced to prove this result allows us to offer quick proofs of the corresponding results of [B. R. Yahaghi, Near triangularizability implies triangularizability, Canad. Math. Bull. 47, (2004), no. 2...
